미국, 러시아 반도체 제재
Early Thursday morning,
Russia President Vladimir Putin declared war on Ukraine,
sending troops across the border into Ukraine
and shelling Ukrainian territory.
The U.S. had already imposed economic sanctions
on Russian businesses and leaders
to deter Putin from escalating the conflict.

in the semiconductor industry—
such as Intel, Qualcomm, and Nvidia—
and U.S. companies create software
that foreign rivals use to design their own chips.
Blocking Russian access to key U.S. design tools and brand-name chips
could cripple the Russian tech industry.
All modern tech, including cars, smartphones, and missiles,
are dependent on semiconductor supplies.
미국은 Intel, Qualcomm, Nvidia와 같은 반도체 산업에서
세계 최대 기업의 본거지이며
미국 기업은 외국 경쟁업체가 자체 칩을 설계하는 데 사용하는
소프트웨어를 만듭니다.

Ukraine is a leading exporter of highly purified neon gas,
which is necessary for the lasers
that are used to etch circuit designs into silicon wafers to create chips.
Russia, meanwhile, is the world’s leading producer of palladium,
which is essential for many memory and sensor chips.
The country also produces several other key raw materials for computer chips,
including the rare–earth metal scandium.
우크라이나는 실리콘 웨이퍼에 회로 설계를 에칭하여 칩을 만드는 레이저 장비에 사용되는
정제된 네온 가스의 주요 수출국입니다.
한편, 러시아는 메모리 및 센서 칩에 필수적인 팔라듐의 세계 최고 생산국입니다.
이 나라는 또한 희토류 금속 스칸듐을 포함하여
컴퓨터 칩을 위한 몇 가지 다른 핵심 원자재를 생산합니다.
If the U.S. tries to sever Russia’s access to chips,
Russia could easily retaliate and put a squeeze on the industry choke points it controls.
