Trader Joe’s newly launched frozen gimbap product is taking the U.S. market by storm. The seaweed-wrapped rice rolls became a sell-out sensation shortly after their introduction in early August.

트레이더조(Trader Joe)가 새롭게 출시한 냉동 김밥 제품이 미국 시장을 강타하고 있습니다. 김으로 감싼 라이스롤은 8월 초 출시 직후부터 품절 돌풍을 일으켰습니다.

 

 



 

 

 

Kimbap (also known as gimbap) is a flavorful Korean seaweed and rice roll. And while Japanese sushi might come to mind, kimbap is actually very different. There’s no raw fish involved. Kimbap is traditionally filled with grilled bulgogi, veggies, rice, ham, and eggs. The Trader Joe’s version features an assortment of sautéed greens, crunchy root vegetables, and crisp pickles around a base of braised tofu. The generously sized roll is cut into nine pieces.

According to industry insiders on August 22, 'Allgot,' a kimbap manufacturer founded in 2020, commenced sales in North America earlier this month through Trader Joe’s in the United States, and their frozen gimbap is witnessing a tremendous surge in popularity. The initial shipment of 250 tons, containing hundreds of thousands of gimbap rolls, sold out within moments, and preparations are now underway for a second delivery.

22일 업계에 따르면 2020년 설립된 김밥 제조사 ' Allgot ' 은 이달 초 미국 트레이더 조( Trader Joe 's)를 통해 북미 판매를 시작한 가운데 냉동 김밥이 큰 인기를 끌고 있습니다. 김밥 수십만롤을 포함한 250톤의 초도 물량이 순식간에 소진돼 현재 2차 배송 준비가 한창입니다.

 

 

 

The product's name uses the Korean word "Kimbap," and an English description is included beneath it. And it reads, "an assortment of sauteed greens, crunchy root vegetables, and crisp pickles around a base of braised tofu, wraps it all in a layer of rice and seaweed, then slices it into two-or-three-bite-sized rounds." The Frozen kimbap is priced at $3.99.

However, due to restrictions on meat exports, only vegetarian and tofu kimbap are being supplied in the United States. The product rapidly gained popularity when a video of someone enjoying the frozen kimbap was shared on social media. A TikTok video featuring a Korean American demonstrating how to prepare frozen kimbap in English garnered 770,000 likes and 3,600 comments in just six days.

탕후루 Tanghulu 에 대해서
  Tanghulu is a popular street food snack in China. It consists of sweet-tart fresh fruits candy coated with a hardened sugar syrup. Once you try it, you’ll want to devour it again and again. It’s different from the sugar coated traditional candied fruit you may be used to.탕후루는 중국에서 인기 있는 길거리 음식입니다. 굳어진 설탕 시럽으로 코팅한 달콤하고 신맛이 나는 신선한 과일 사탕으로 되어 있습니다. 한번 먹어보면 계속해서 먹고 싶어질 겁니다. 설탕으로 코팅된 전통적인 설탕에 절인 과일과는 다릅니다.   My favorite is Strawberry Tanghulu, made with fresh strawberries, but you can make it with any fruit you like. One legend has it that a beloved concubine was too ill to eat anything until a physician suggested dipping dried fruit in caramel.
