달러 강세US dollar rides to two-decade highs as yields rise
치솟는 달러·환율
달러는 지난주 미 연방준비제도(연준)가 0.5%p 금리를 올리고,
6 - 7월에도 각각 0.5%p씩 금리를 올리는 '빅스텝'을 예고하며
20년만에 최고 수준으로 가치가 올랐습니다.
외환시장에서 달러 가치 강세는 다른 나라 통화가치 약세를 뜻하기도 하지요.
The dollar climbed to its highest levels in two decades on Monday as a combination of rising U.S. Treasury yields and a tightening lockdown in China boosted the safe haven appeal of the greenback.
미 국채 수익률 상승과 중국의 봉쇄 강화로 미국 달러가 안전자산으로 부각되면서 달러는 월요일 20년 만에 최고치를 기록했습니다

The growth sensitive Australian dollar fell 1% to $0.6999, its lowest since February. Sterling and the New Zealand dollar hit 22-month lows, while the euro and yen were barely above recent major troughs.
성장에 민감한 호주 달러는 1% 하락한 $0.6999로 2월 이후 최저치를 기록했습니다. 영국 파운드화와 뉴질랜드 달러는 22개월 최저치를 기록했고 유로화와 엔화는 최근 주요 저점을 겨우 넘었습니다.

China's yuan extended losses to close at a near 19-month low as sluggish April trade data reaffirmed market worries that COVID-19 induced lockdowns across the country are taking a toll on economy.
중국 위안화는 4월 무역 지표 부진이 코로나19로 인한 중국 전역의 봉쇄가 경제에 타격을 주고 있다는 시장 우려를 재확인하면서 거의 19개월 만에 최저 수준으로 마감했습니다.
** sluggish - 느릿느릿 움직이는; 부진한 : moving slowly or lazily
** reaffirm - 재차 확인하다 : to formally state (something) again in order to emphasize that it is true
** lockdown - 대규모 사회통제, 봉쇄 : to secure; make people stay locked indoors for their safety
** taking a toll - ~에 악영향을 끼치다
toll은 통행료를 의미합니다
또는 자연재해나 전쟁, 사고로 생기는 사망자 수를 의미하기도 합니다.
toll이 요금을 지불하거나 사상자 수의 의미로 사용되듯
take a toll 이라고 하는것은 on 뒤의 사람이나 상황에게 피해를 주는 것입니다.
