On October 13, 2024, SpaceX successfully conducted its fifth test flight of the Starship rocket system, marking a significant milestone by catching the giant Super Heavy booster using a pair of mechanical arms known as "chopsticks." This was the first time SpaceX managed to return and capture the towering first-stage booster back at the launch site. The rocket launched from the Starbase facility in Boca Chica, Texas, and reached an altitude of around 70 kilometers before the booster separated and made its descent.

This landing method is part of SpaceX's strategy to create fully reusable spacecraft, reducing the time and cost of space missions. The successful recovery of the booster is a crucial step toward SpaceX's long-term goals of facilitating missions to the moon, Mars, and beyond, and is also tied to NASA's Artemis program, which aims to send astronauts to the moon by 2026
