영어 문법을 공부할 때 꼭 알아야 할 20가지 핵심 규칙을 정리했습니다. 이 규칙들을 잘 익히면 영어 문장을 만들 때 실수를 줄이고 더 정확한 문장을 구사할 수 있습니다.
1. 문장은 대문자로 시작하고 마침표( . ), 물음표( ? ), 느낌표( ! )로 끝난다.

2. 기본 긍정문은 주어(S) + 동사(V) + 목적어(O)의 어순을 따른다.
❗ 부정문과 의문문은 어순이 다를 수 있음.

They were driving their car to Bangkok.
3. 모든 문장에는 주어와 동사가 필요하다. (목적어는 선택적)
❗ 명령문에서는 동사만 사용할 수도 있음.
📌 예문:
John teaches.
John teaches English.
Stop! (즉, "You stop!"의 의미)
4. 주어와 동사는 수에 맞게 일치해야 한다.
✔ 단수 주어 → 단수 동사
✔ 복수 주어 → 복수 동사

That monk eats once a day.
John and Mary work in London.
Most people eat three meals a day.
5. 두 개의 단수 주어가 "or", "either/or", "neither/nor"로 연결되면 단수 동사를 사용한다.

John or Mary is coming tonight.
Either coffee or tea is fine.
Neither John nor Mary was late.
6. 형용사는 명사 앞에 위치한다. (단, 동사가 형용사를 수식할 때는 예외)
📌 예문:
I have a big dog.
She married a handsome Italian man.
(예외) Her husband is rich.
7. 여러 개의 형용사를 사용할 때는 "의견(Opinion) + 사실(Fact) + 명사(Noun)" 순서로 배치한다.
📌 예문:
I saw a nice French table.
That was an interesting Shakespearian play.
8. 집합 명사(committee, company, family 등)는 단수 또는 복수로 사용할 수 있다.
✔ 영국식(BrE) → 보통 복수 취급
✔ 미국식(AmE) → 보통 단수 취급
📌 예문:
The committee are having sandwiches for lunch. (BrE)
The BBC have changed their logo. (BrE)
My family likes going to the zoo. (AmE)
CNN has changed its logo. (AmE)
9. "its"와 "it's"는 서로 다른 단어이다.
📌 예문:
The dog has hurt its leg. (소유격)
He says it's two o'clock. (it is의 축약형)
10. "your"와 "you're"는 서로 다른 단어이다.
📌 예문:
Here is your coffee. (소유격)
You're looking good. (You are의 축약형)
11. "there", "their", "they're"는 서로 다른 단어이다.
📌 예문:
There was nobody at the party. (장소나 존재)
I saw their new car. (소유격)
Do you think they're happy? (They are의 축약형)
12. "he's"는 "he is" 또는 "he has"의 의미로 사용될 수 있다.
✔ "she's"와 "it's"도 동일한 규칙 적용.

13. "he’d"는 "he had" 또는 "he would"의 의미로 사용될 수 있다.

14. 고유 명사는 첫 글자를 대문자로 쓴다.
📌 예문:

15. 고유 형용사(Proper Adjective)도 첫 글자를 대문자로 쓴다.
📌 예문:
London is an English town.
Who is the Canadian prime minister?

16. 일반적인 가산 명사에는 부정관사 "a/an"을, 특정한 명사에는 정관사 "the"를 사용한다.

I saw a bird and a balloon in the sky. The bird was blue and the balloon was yellow.
He always saves some of the money that he earns.
17. "a/an"의 선택은 발음에 따라 결정된다.
✔ 자음 소리 → "a"
✔ 모음 소리 → "an"

18. "many/few"는 가산 명사와, "much/little"은 불가산 명사와 함께 사용한다.

19. 소유격을 나타낼 때 단수 명사에는 " 's ", 복수 명사에는 " s' "를 사용한다.

20. 문장에서는 가능한 한 능동태를 사용하는 것이 좋다.
✔ 능동태(Active Voice) → 더 자연스럽고 명확함.
✔ 수동태(Passive Voice) → 불필요한 경우 피하는 것이 좋음.
