니트족 이란?
니트족 neet
[ not in education, employment or training ]
일하지 않고 일할 의지도 없는 청년 무직자를 뜻하는 신조어입니다.
Not in Education, Employment or Training의 줄임말이지요.
니트라고 불리는 젊은이의 수가 증가하고 있다.
The number of young “NEETs” is rising.
Young persons not engaged in education,
employment or training, expressed as the acronym.
“NEET”, are being used increasingly in developed economies
as a measure of youth.
그런데, 이 니트라는 문구, 영어로 어떻게 표현할까요?
미국에서는 통하지 않는다?
니트는 미국 영어에서는 자주 사용되지 않는 표현입니다…
영국 정부가 처음 사용한 용어로 10대를 뜻하는 ‘teen’을 거꾸로 한말입니다
영국에서는 1990년대에 사회 문제로서 이 말이 만들어져
사전에도 게재되고 있지만
미국에서는, neet라고 하는 표현은 사용하지 않고,
실업을 의미하는 unemployment가 일반적입니다
