​관계대명사 완벽 정리

대화할때 관계대명사를 사용하느냐 못하느냐에 따라서 중급실력과 하급실력으로 나누어지며

회화나 문장이해에서 정말 정말 중요한 부분이므로 많은 예문으로 공부합시다.

영어 문장에서 다양한 문장을 연결하고 정보를 추가할 때 관계대명사 (Relative Pronouns)를 사용합니다. 

관계대명사는 문장을 보다 풍부하게 만들어 주며, 특히 글쓰기와 회화에서 필수적인 요소입니다.

1. 관계대명사란?

관계대명사는 두 개의 문장을 연결하여 하나의 문장으로 만들어 주는 역할을 합니다. 

즉, 앞에 있는 명사를 수식하면서 새로운 정보를 추가해 주는 대명사입니다.

예문:

I met a man. He is a doctor.

→ I met a man who is a doctor. (나는 의사인 한 남자를 만났다.)

이처럼 who를 사용하여 "He is a doctor"를 "a man"과 연결할 수 있습니다.

2. 관계대명사의 종류

관계대명사는 대표적으로 who, whom, which, that, whose가 있으며, 

선행사의 종류와 문장에서의 역할에 따라 사용이 달라집니다.

(1) 주격 관계대명사 (who, which, that)

주격 관계대명사는 선행사가 문장에서 주어 역할을 할 때 사용됩니다.

who (사람)

The boy who plays soccer is my brother.

(축구를 하는 그 소년은 내 동생이다.)

She is the woman who teaches English.

(그녀는 영어를 가르치는 여자이다.)

which (사물, 동물)

The book which is on the table is mine.

(책상 위에 있는 책은 내 것이다.)

I saw a dog which has a long tail.

that (사람, 사물 모두 가능)

The man that called me is my uncle.

(나에게 전화한 그 남자는 내 삼촌이다.)

----- who/which 대신 that 사용 가능하지만, 격식 있는 글에서는 who/which가 더 자연스러움.

(2) 목적격 관계대명사 (whom, which, that)

목적격 관계대명사는 선행사가 문장에서 목적어 역할을 할 때 사용됩니다. 목적어이므로 보통 생략할 수도 있습니다.

---- 구어체에서는 whom/which보다 that을 더 자주 사용하며, 보통 생략 가능.

(3) 소유격 관계대명사 (whose)

소유격 관계대명사는 명사의 소유를 나타낼 때 사용됩니다.
