    What happens to your skin when you get sunburnt?

     

     

    Sunburn is an inflammatory reaction to ultraviolet (UV) radiation damage to the skin¡¯s outermost layers. At the heart of it all is melanin, a pigment that gives your skin its color and defends it against the sun¡¯s rays. 

    ÇÞºµ¿¡ Ÿ´Â°ÍÀº ÇǺÎÀÇ °¡Àå ¹Ù±ùÃþ¿¡ ´ëÇÑ Àڿܼ±(UV) ¼Õ»ó¿¡ ´ëÇÑ ¿°Áõ ¹ÝÀÀÀÔ´Ï´Ù. ±× ¸ðµç °ÍÀÇ Á߽ɿ¡´Â ¸á¶ó´ÑÀÌ Àִµ¥, ¸á¶ó´ÑÀº ¿©·¯ºÐÀÇ ÇǺο¡ »ö±òÀ» ÁÖ°í ÅÂ¾ç ±¤¼±À¸·ÎºÎÅÍ ÇǺθ¦ º¸È£ÇØÁÖ´Â »ö¼ÒÀÔ´Ï´Ù. 

     



     

     

    For people with less melanin, prolonged unprotected sun exposure can cause skin cells to become red, swollen and painful, also known as sunburn. Sunburns can range from mild to blistering.

    ¸á¶ó´ÑÀÌ ÀûÀº »ç¶÷ÀÇ °æ¿ì Àå±â°£ ¹«¹æºñ »óÅ·ΠÇÞºû¿¡ ³ëÃâµÇ¸é ÇǺΠ¼¼Æ÷°¡ ºÓ¾îÁö°í ºÎ¾î¿À¸£¸ç ÅëÁõÀ» À¯¹ßÇÒ ¼ö ÀÖÀ¸¸ç, ÀÌ°ÍÀº ÇÞºµ¿¡ Ÿ´Â°ÍÀ¸·Îµµ ¾Ë·ÁÁ® ÀÖ½À´Ï´Ù. ÇÞºµ¿¡ Ÿ´Â°ÍÀº °¡º­¿î °ÍºÎÅÍ ¹°ÁýÀÌ »ý±â´Â °Í±îÁö ´Ù¾çÇÕ´Ï´Ù.

     

     

     

    After sunburn, your skin may start to peel. This is a sign that your body is trying to rid itself of damaged cells. Never try to peel the skin yourself; let it come off naturally. 

    ÇÞºµ¿¡ ź ÈÄ ÇǺΰ¡ ¹þ°ÜÁö±â ½ÃÀÛÇÒ ¼ö ÀÖ½À´Ï´Ù. ÀÌ´Â ½Åü°¡ ¼Õ»óµÈ ¼¼Æ÷¸¦ ½º½º·Î Á¦°ÅÇÏ·Á°í ÇÑ´Ù´Â ½ÅÈ£ÀÔ´Ï´Ù. ÇǺθ¦ Á÷Á¢ ¹þ±â·Á°í ÇÏÁö ¸¶½Ê½Ã¿À. ÀÚ¿¬½º·´°Ô ¶³¾îÁö°Ô ÇØÁÖ¼¼¿ä. 

     

     

     

    When ultraviolet radiation from the sun reaches the skin, it damages the skin cells and causes mutations in their DNA.  

    Our bodies have a lot of amazing mechanisms to prevent and even correct these mutations. But if the skin cells get more UV exposure than they can handle, the damage may be beyond repair, and the cells die off. Blood vessels dilate to increase blood flow and bring immune cells to the skin to help clean up the mess.  All this causes the redness, swelling and inflammation we associate with a sunburn.¡±    

    žçÀÇ Àڿܼ±ÀÌ ÇǺο¡ ´êÀ¸¸é ÇǺΠ¼¼Æ÷¸¦ ¼Õ»ó½ÃÅ°°í DNA¿¡ µ¹¿¬º¯À̸¦ ÀÏÀ¸Åµ´Ï´Ù.  

    ¿ì¸® ¸ö¿¡´Â ÀÌ·¯ÇÑ µ¹¿¬º¯À̸¦ ¿¹¹æÇÏ°í ±³Á¤ÇÏ´Â ³î¶ó¿î ¸ÞÄ¿´ÏÁòÀÌ ¸¹ÀÌ ÀÖ½À´Ï´Ù.. ±×·¯³ª ÇǺΠ¼¼Æ÷°¡ °¨´çÇÒ ¼ö ÀÖ´Â °Íº¸´Ù ´õ ¸¹Àº Àڿܼ±¿¡ ³ëÃâµÇ¸é ¼Õ»óÀ» º¹±¸ÇÒ ¼ö ¾øÀ¸¸ç ¼¼Æ÷°¡ Á×À» ¼ö ÀÖ½À´Ï´Ù. Ç÷°üÀÌ È®ÀåµÇ¾î Ç÷·ù¸¦ Áõ°¡½ÃÅ°°í ¸é¿ª ¼¼Æ÷¸¦ ÇǺηΠ°¡Á®¿Í ¾û¸ÁÁøâµÈ°ÍÀ» û¼ÒÇÏ´Â µ¥ µµ¿òÀ» ÁÝ´Ï´Ù. ÀÌ ¸ðµç °ÍÀº ÇÞºµ¿¡ Ÿ´Â°Í°ú °ü·ÃµÈ ºÓ¾îÁü ºÎ¾î¿À¸§ ¿°ÁõÀ» À¯¹ßÇÕ´Ï´Ù.   

     

     

     

    DNA damage also causes the cells in the upper layer of skin to signal the cells that produce melanin (the pigment that gives our hair and skin its colour) to get to work. This is what provides the tan that can come after the redness has faded.

    The melanin settles over the skin cells to shield them from future UV exposure.

    There's nothing you can do for sunburn except giving the skin time to heal itself. In the meantime, you can relieve the discomfort by staying out of the sun, drinking plenty of water, applying a cool compress, and taking over-the-counter medications such as paracetamol.

    If you¡¯re near a cold pool, lake or ocean, take a quick dip to cool your skin, but only for a few seconds so you don¡¯t prolong your exposure. Then cover up and get out of the sun immediately. Continue to cool the burn with cold compresses. You can use ice to make ice water for a cold compress, but don¡¯t apply ice directly to the sunburn. Or take a cool shower or bath, but not for too long, which can be drying, and avoid harsh soap, which might irritate the skin even more.

    While skin is still damp, use a gentle moisturizing lotion (but not petroleum or oil-based ointments, which may trap the heat and make the burn worse). Repeat to keep burned or peeling skin moist over the next few days.

    Continue with cool compresses to help discomfort, wear loose, soft, breathable clothing to avoid further skin irritation and stay out of the sun entirely until the sunburn heals.

    It¡¯s important to rehydrate by drinking extra liquids, including water and sports drinks that help to replenish electrolytes, immediately and while your skin heals.
